I don’t think there’s any major spoilers in this, but if you haven’t read the book or something you might wanna just skip over.
Hobbits – When Frodo starts to get affected by the ring (specially towards the end) he looks really cool. Sam, Merry and Pippin didn’t have much to do, so not much thoughts on that… except when Sam said, “I’m your Sam!” I was all verklempt.
Aragorn is sooo hot, THAT’S what I want for christmas.
Legolas was cool. He had some good lines. Gimli was funny. I liked that they kept in their counting bit, but I wish there had been a bit more banter between them.
Arwen did not bother me as much as I thought she would. She did not have all that big a role in this movie. When she started crying and said “You have my love also, father,” I felt so bad for her!
And Gandalf is still my favourite. He is so cool. If I were a guy, when I got old, I would so grow out my hair and beard and pretend I was Gandalf. And everytime I’d come back from somewhere, I’d go, “I come back to you now, at the turn of the tide!”
Eowyn was good. They cut the dress I’m making tho. Boo! Eomer didn’t have much to do. I wish Faramir had been closer to book Faramir but I think that’ll all get righted in the next one.
Gollum… I loved Gollum ever since I read the hobbit, and I love him even more now. I wish I could do a good gollum voice, but I can’t. They did an amazing job with him, especially his facial expressions.
The Ents were pretty good. And this leads into the scene portion of my little review-type-thing, because the scene I was most waiting for was the Ents attacking! That was pretty cool, yeah, take that Saruman!!! And that one Ent on fire who ran up and stuck his head in the water, LOL
Helm’s Deep was awesome. Just a passing mention – Haldir in his gleaming pretty boy armor and the Olympic Torch Bearer Uruk-hai. Wormtongue was nasty.
I was disappointed at the end, because I reeeeeally wanted it to end like the book. What a great cliffhanger that would have been. I was also all, “noooo! it can’t end here!! another 30 minutes or so!! please?”
All in all, good times, good times. I am ready to see it again… even though I did not fall asleep (despite the fact I was only functioning on four hours of sleep), my mind still wandered in some of the more chatty parts. So I’d like to see it again when I’m properly awake.
And now some commentary on the actual movie-going experience!
Wore Arwen!
Neither Ash or Sara got to come. Sara ended up having to work late, and Ash’s mom didn’t know it was at Peabody Place!
I had already bought two tickets for the 12:01 AM showing on the IMAX screen. We got down there, and guess what, it’s sold out. So nobody else could get tickets to that. So Cath and I gave up our IMAX tickets and traded them in for 12:10 on the regular screen tickets (and we kept reminding everyone, too – “we’re such good friends, we gave up our IMAX tickets for you guys!”), but doing that actually ended up being better for us. Then me, cath, and her friends walked down to Friday’s (yes, keep in mind I was wearing my costume) and met mel and josh and ate. Then we walked back to the theater (which was in a mall) and sat around and talked for a while. Cath had brought her Faramir, Frodo and Sam action figures, and I had brought my Aragorn and Mel her Aragorn, so we goofed around with those for a long time.
Then we met up with the people for the Line Party, and we met Beth from the reading group who was dressed as an Uruk-hai! Also a Merry and Pippin! I will have pics up later. They were the only costumers I saw though. Beth gave us invitations to the Tolkien birthday party she’s hosting, and I’m making Eowyn for that, and Mel is going to wear my Arwen. That’ll be fun!
So then aorund 10:30 we went up to the theater and saw the line for the 12:01 showing, which was already really long. We asked if the 12:15 were lining up yet and where, and the guy said it was down the hall. Well, there was no one in line for it. And they let us go right in the theater. We were the first in the theater and got the best seats!!! Then we just spent time wandering around, sitting around talking, and more wandering around. Movie finally started, but we saw no good previews.
Afterwards, we were originally going to go to IHOP or somewhere and “discuss.” But everyone was so dead we decided not to. As we were in the great line to leave the parking garage, Mel called – they had had an accident in the parking garage! no one was hurt and they were able to go on home. Ugh. Cath and I got back to the house and passed out at 4:30 AM. Then Cath had to get up and go to work at 8:30, so I got on up, gathered up all my junk and headed home. And here I am. I need to go take a nap…
Ooh and Cath in her group shirt! Hers was Frodo, mine was Gandalf…
